61st STS Annual Meeting

Registration is open for STS 2025, the 61st Annual Meeting of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons! Taking place Jan. 24-26 in Los Angeles, the event will bring together STS members and colleagues for groundbreaking research, never-before-seen techniques, innovative technologies, and a shared camaraderie to help sustain your career. The meeting takes place Friday–Sunday, with a pre-conference program on Thursday, so attendees can start a new week at home on Monday!
 

Late-Breaking Abstract Submissions

STS is seeking submissions of late-breaking research for presentation consideration. If you are involved in clinical trials, innovative investigations, or quality improvement projects for which results have recently become available, consider a submission for STS 2025. Learn more and submit.

STS TV

We are excited to announce that STS is partnering with WebsEdge, an international video production company focusing on cutting edge research and best practices in science, medicine and more from all around the world, to bring STS TV to the 61st STS Annual Meeting in January 2025.

This thrilling element uses video to enhance your conference experience, serving as a unique platform to help highlight the most important issues and developments surgeries of the heart, lungs, and esophagus, and other surgical procedures within the chest.

STS TV will broadcast daily episodes throughout the conference featuring:

• News and Insights: On-site interviews, key highlights, and attendee insights and reactions from around the meeting.
• In-depth Reports: Five-minute documentary style films from universities, hospitals, institutions, and organizations highlighting their programs, case studies, and ongoing initiatives that are making a difference.

Attendees will be able to view STS TV on the meeting website, on-site at the conference, on the meeting platform, and YouTube. Content will also be promoted across social media channels.

Interested in promoting your organization on STS TV?
Leading up to the 2025 STS Annual Meeting, WebsEdge will be contacting organizations to discuss the opportunity of producing a film about their work, to be broadcast on STS TV during the Meeting. There is a cost to be featured in these pre-recorded films, and only a limited number of organizations will be able to take part this year.

Registration and Housing 

Register by Oct. 15 to enjoy a discounted registration rate. STS members save even more—and Resident/Fellow and Medical Student Members can register for free! 

Registration includes access to Annual Meeting Online, the digital archive of most meeting sessions. Recordings will be available to all registrants for one year in the STS Learning Center, beginning soon after the meeting’s conclusion. This provides a subsequent opportunity to earn significantly more continuing medical education credit beyond what you can earn during the live event. 

Ticketed events are available at an additional cost to in-person registrants. 

Housing 

Exclusive discounted rates are available when you reserve your hotel through the Society’s room block! Book early as some venues have a limited number of rooms.  

Making your reservation through the official STS room blocks helps the Society continue to leverage the best possible pricing for its meeting attendees. Staying in the STS hotel block also may help facilitate informal connections and networking opportunities that occur at the hotels during the meeting. You must register for the Annual Meeting before you can book your housing. Reduced hotel rates are available through Jan. 11, 2025. 

Note: The Society has engaged Convention Management Resources (CMR) as the only approved official registration and housing provider for the STS Annual Meeting. Please be wary of any other companies ostensibly offering registration and/or housing assistance for the STS Annual Meeting. Such companies typically imply that they are working with STS, but in reality are unauthorized. Contact the STS Meetings Department if you are contacted by anyone other than CMR.

Pre-Conference Symposia

STS will offer three concurrent half-day programs on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, for attendees who want to round out their educational experience at STS 2025. These symposia are also available to attend as a standalone event (though STS 2025 attendees receive a discount when adding a pre-conference event to their meeting registration). 

Symposium registration includes lunch as well as a Thursday evening reception following the conclusion of the half-day course. Learn more. 
 

Hands-On Courses

Hands-on courses offer an immersive learning experience in a variety of surgical procedures, particularly for residents and early career surgeons. Five courses will be offered throughout the Annual Meeting. Each carries an additional fee; choose your session(s) and add them during meeting registration. STS members receive a discount!

Mock Oral Exam Course

STS will offer an installment of its Mock Oral Exam Course during STS 2025. The goal of the program is to help decrease the stress of the Board exam by allowing trainees to prepare for and practice with the oral exam format. The in-person session will group more than one examinee together with mock examiners who will present case scenarios, pose questions, and provide individualized verbal and written feedback to each participant. Each examinee participant will have 15 minutes of question/answer with feedback, and the opportunity to observe fellow examinees. Registration will include access to online modules and resources 1-2 weeks prior to the in-person mock exam session at the Annual Meeting. Limited spots are available, and priority will be given to cardiothoracic surgery residents who are scheduled to take the ABTS oral examination in June 2025. 

Fees are $300 for STS members and $400 for non-members. Add the Mock Oral Exam Course to your STS 2025 registration.
